It’s Tossers Day

Pancake Day in Atherstone doesn’t just mean throwing some gloopy batter in the air it also means the Atherstone Ball Game. This is an 805 year tradition where hundreds of people take to the streets to chase after a leather ball and knock seven shades of shit out of each other. As much as I would have loved to have stayed and taken photos I didn’t fancy getting caught up in the scrum as I was told that a ‘safe place to watch’ didn’t exist. If anyone visits this town I can highly recommend a visit to the St Giles Hospice 2nd hand bookshop. They have a fantastic selection of books and the owner thought I was in my 20’s – I like her very much. Also if you want a good laugh go to The Old Bakery coffee shop opposite as I nearly choked on my drink when one of the elderly ladies behind the counter told the young delivery man that she’d show him where he could put his sausage! Priceless. Must be the lovely weather that’s having a strange effect on people.

Ooh motorhome styley pancakes :oP

About travellingninjas3

Scarlet haired veggie/coeliac/tattooed/charity shop loving rebel sold everything to take to the road with 3 Yorkies in a campervan to discover the meaning of life & blog about it. It all went well for 18 months but then a flippin bloke walked into my life and turned it upside down so now the travelling has come to a halt but I still live in the van but in a field - marvellous :o)
