And the Oscar goes to……..

There’s not a lot you can do when it’s snowing and snowing and snowing outside and you can’t move anywhere so I thought I’d make up my own Oscar ceremony for the campsites, people and places we’ve visited so far.

Best Campsite (I will visit again)

  1. Camping Jeugdstadion, Ypres, Belgium
  2. Camping Hirzberg, Freiburg, Germany

Worst Campsite (I would sleep in the gutter rather than return)

  1. Camping Grimbergen, Belgium
  2. Camping Wien West, Vienna
  3. Bleriot Plage, Calais, France

Nicest Staff – Pleasant, informative and helpful

  1. Camping Jeugdstadion, Ypres, Belgium
  2. Camping Hirzberg, Freiburg, Germany
  3. Busek Camping, Prague

Worst Staff – should be shot for their rudeness/indifference

  1. Camping Grimbergen, Belgium
  2. Camping Wien West, Vienna

People who went beyond the call of duty

  1. Camping Busek, Prague – for taping up my broken window in the rain and the dark after my disastrous entrance

Best Facilities – Loo’s, showers, laundry etc

  1. Panorama Camping, Salzburg, Austria
  2. Terrassen Camping, Schlierbach, Germany

Worst Facilities – so skanky you wouldn’t touch then with a 15ft bargepole

  1. Bleriot Plage, Calais, France
  2. Camping Wien West, Vienna – that smell will haunt me forever

 Most Picturesque Area/scenery

  1. Camping Seehof, Tyrol , Austria – just breathtaking

 Best services/facilities in the area

  1. Camping Hirzberg, Freiburg, Germany – town and supermarkets within walking distance
  2. Camping Jeugstadion, Ypres, Belgium – Aldi across the road, 10 min walk into town and the Menin Gate

 Best Dog Walks

  1. Terrassen Camping, Schlierbach, Germany
  2. Camping Jeugstadion, Ypres, Belgium
  3. Camping Hirzberg, Freiburg, Germany

 Worst Dog Walks

  1. Camping Grimbergen, Belgium – the sports centre car park.

 Best Dog Facilities

  1. Camping Seehof, Tirol, Austria – free dog shower. Need I say more

Campsite I felt safest in (enough to leave van unlocked!)

  1. Camping Jeugstadion, Ypres, Belgium

Campsite I felt the least safe in

  1. Camping Wien West, Vienna – 1st time I got the door straps out. Some dubious people living on site
  2. Bleriot Plage, Calais, France – same reasons as Vienna

 Best Value

  1. Camping Jeugstadion, Ypres, Belgium – 12 Euros a night for me, the van, electric and 3 dogs. What a bargain and free showers.

 Biggest Rip Off

  1. Panorama Camping, Salzburg, Austria – 24 Euros a night

 Funniest Moments

  1. Thinking the ticket inspector on the bus in Prague was a beggar/vagrant and telling him no thank you and to go away
  2. Doing a pig impression in Fressnapf, Freiburg as they didn’t speak much English and I was after pig ears for the dogs

 Nicest People we met

  1. The lovely couple in Ypres who said I reminded them of their daughter and thought Chloe was fantastic
  2. My Italian neighbours in Salzburg with the Yorkie
  3. The old chaps in Ypres who were there with their WW2 motorbikes touring the battlefields
  4. The English couple who lived in Munich but were in Salzburg with friends for the SOM tour
  5. Just about everyone British at Camping Memling though I probably talked too much after so long without conversation

 Best bit of advice

  1. To visit the site at Ypres – from an English couple in Calais

About travellingninjas3

Scarlet haired veggie/coeliac/tattooed/charity shop loving rebel sold everything to take to the road with 3 Yorkies in a campervan to discover the meaning of life & blog about it. It all went well for 18 months but then a flippin bloke walked into my life and turned it upside down so now the travelling has come to a halt but I still live in the van but in a field - marvellous :o)
